Compensation of digestion disorders, exocrine pancreatic insuficiency and reduction of intestinal absorption disorders.

The gastrointestinal system groups organs such as the mouth, esophagus, liver, pancreas, large intestine... with so many actors it is logical to face an even wider set of diseases. The most common symptoms would be: diarrhea, gastric retention. In cats it is possible to find constipation leading to megacolon, pancreatitis of very difficult diagnosis and often related to inflammatory bowel disease IBD (or IBD), exocrine pancreatic insufficiency IPE (or EPI) as a result of pancreatitis mainly, without forgetting neoplasms for example.

Generally, high digestibility of nutrients and ingredients will be sought. Both carbohydrates and proteins should be highly digestible so that nutrient assimilation in the small intestine is maximized and waste generation is minimized. This will alleviate the stress generated by the production of biliary, pancreatic and gastric secretions necessary; the support of probiotic Lactobacillus strains included in the recipes is focused on maximizing their intrinsic benefits highlighting immunomodulatory effect, so they will be eficient in diseases such as IBD, causing colitis, gastritis or enteritis. The selection of Enterococcus Faecium and different strains of Lactobacillus will form an effective combination in the nutritional support for the relief of this disease.

IBD can cause malnutrition in the cat, by malabsorption or poor digestion and loss of nutrients, so you must provide nutrients and Kcal needed, in some cases there has been a good acceptance of diets with normal fat content, although lower contents and good quality sources are suggested.

If we focus on pancreatitis, which can generate other serious secondary ones such as diabetes mellitus, it is imperative that the animal eats, force feeding not being a recommendation given the stress it generates and the possible worsening due to this. In the case that there is no aversion to food, the diet must be suficiently caloric to cover the requirements, and especially relevant, the use of highly digestible proteins.

Selected and even hydrolyzed protein sources were preferred, which unite their maximum digestibility and the reduction of a possible allergic reaction that cannot be ruled out as a cause, together with an adjusted content in fats, fibers and the contribution of probiotic strains will form a choice diet suitable for the greatest possible number of diseases present.
